Paradox means "Beyond Belief." This is a postmodern project of the Loma Linda Chinese Church Young Adults to look for surprising spiritual insights from the Bible that we have not seen before.

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that the Egyptians got the opposite of their intended result--they hoped to break the spirit of the Israelite people and decrease their numbers, but instead the Israelite population kept growing!
The Egyptians feared the Hebrews would outnumber them and eventually turn on them during time of war. Their solution was to try to suppress them and decrease their number and to work them ruthlessly. In doing so, they may have been fulfilling their own prophecy. It appears obvious that their harsh treatment would incite hatred among the Hebrew people, making them more likely to rebel in the future. Interesting how flawed our reasoning can sometimes be when we are driven by fear.
ReplyDeleteHow much better it would have been to treat the Hebrews with kindness so they could gain an ally. Can you think of any examples when your fear drove you to do something counterproductive? Let’s be people that live by faith and not by fear.
